Welcome To The Home Page of The Sarasota Fern and Tropical Plant Society. If you aren't already a member, you are invited to join us. Membership in the Society is open to anyone with an appreciation of tropical plants and does not require any prior experience in horticulture.

If you're new to our area, or new to growing tropical plants and ferns, you'll be pleased to learn that most tropical plants and, in particular, many species of ferns are very much at home here in West Central Florida.  Caring for them is not difficult.  For example, the "Staghorn" fern at right (a platycerium bifurcatum) has been hanging in the yard of one of our members for almost 30 years and it has never received any special care.  The fern now measures over six feet in diameter and continues to thrive despite so many years of benign neglect.  This plant, in typical fern fashion, has added much beauty to its environment in exchange for very little effort on the part of its owner.

Of course, there are more difficult tropical plants and ferns to grow and there is a great deal of information to learn about tropical plant horticulture in general. The Sarasota Fern and Tropical Plant Society is an excellent way to expand your knowledge about them.  Come join us!
